Coffee Bar Manager

Company Info:

Mocama Coffee is the coffee arm of Mocama Beer Company. Located directly next to our brewery taproom, it serves the essential purpose of providing patrons with top notch coffee service during the daytime hours of the week.

Job Summary:

The Coffee Bar Manager is tasked with managing service in our guest environment. Working with a team to ensure that guest needs are met must be this individual’s primary focus to maintain quality and integrity of service. This position is customer-oriented and requires the ability to multi-task while maintaining social engagement. Good communication skills are a must. The ability to be present and engaged for long periods is essential.

This position mainly consists of managing a staff of baristas to ensure that operations run smoothly, guiding patrons through the options on our menu in a relaxed, friendly, and informative way, sharing knowledge, preparing coffee drinks and light fare, and ensuring the space is always clean and tidy.

This position is a full-time position and requires a commitment of at least 32 hours per week. Some workdays may extend up to 10 hours as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must wear proper work safe attire
  • Follow all standard operating procedures and safety protocols
  • Communicate throughout the day to complete daily objectives
  • Monitor efficiencies and inefficiencies and suggest/implement improvements
  • Opens and closes the coffee bar (counts in/counts down cash drawers, ensures that the space is clean and ready for patrons, restocks and orders any necessary supplies and raw materials, addresses unforeseen needs)
  • Ensures that the coffee bar equipment is clean and in working order, that cold brew coffee on tap is acceptable to serve (correct temperature, correct dispense pressure, optimal quality, no off- flavors); Reports quality issues as needed
  • Re-orders coffee, milks, creams, paper goods, merchandise, etc. inventories as needed
  • Curates and maintains a pleasant environment (temperature, music, cleanliness, conduct)
  • Accommodates space as needed for special events
  • Reports to Director of Hospitality weekly to discuss Coffee Bar operations and any related business
  • Performs weekly inventory of coffee beans, finished goods, and foodstuffs
  • Performs monthly inventory of the above as well as service ware, salable merchandise, and supplies.
  • Writes the weekly schedule (two weeks at a time) for taproom employees and releases the schedule no later than two weeks ahead of time
  • Reviews and approves taproom time-off requests
  • Covers shifts as needed in the event of staff illness or emergency
  • Steps in to help staff as needed
  • Follows staff disciplinary protocol as needed
  • Works with Director of Hospitality and HR to resolve any critical staff behavioral issues
  • Works with Director of Hospitality and HR to recruit, interview, hire, review, and terminate staff
  • Understands and follows procedures to maintain compliance with all health and safety regulations and rules regarding beverage and food service sanitation as stated by the relevant jurisdictions.
  • Understands and complies with state liquor laws as they relate to serving alcoholic beverages to the public.
  • Identifies signs of patron over-intoxication, takes appropriate steps to alert staff and safely remediate situation in a courteous and firm manner
  • Executes all other necessary tasks and projects as they arise
  • Works with Leadership team towards continuous optimization of coffee bar operations
  • Ability to meet all requirements listed in the Coffee bar barista job description in addition to the above

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, lifting, kneeling, and reaching
  • Must be able to stand for the entire shift, up to ten hours
  • Consistently able to use repetitive hand and wrist motion
  • Work with hot, cold, and hazardous equipment and materials
  • Frequent water exposure

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily indoors in a temperature-controlled production space
  • Potential hazards include but are not limited to repetitive or sustained physical activity, rapid equipment movement, sharp glass, hot water, dangerous chemicals/solvents, pressurized gas, heavy objects, slippery surfaces, alcohol
  • Employees will have access to private break room area

Required:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application to be considered for the position
  • Must have at least 1 year of recent experience in a managerial role in a coffee environment
  • Must have at least 2 years of recent experience working in coffee customer service or production

 


Coffee Bar Barista

Job Summary:

The Coffee Bar Barista is tasked with executing service in our guest environment. Working with a team to ensure that guest needs are met must be this individual’s primary focus to maintain quality and integrity of service. This position is customer-oriented and requires the ability to multi-task while maintaining social engagement. Good communication skills are a must. The ability to be present and engaged for long periods is essential.

This position mainly consists of guiding our patrons through the options on our menu in a relaxed, friendly and informative way, sharing knowledge, preparing coffee drinks and light fare, ringing up transactions, clearing, cleaning, polishing and stocking glassware, wiping down and resetting tables and counters, sweeping, spot mopping, restocking bathrooms, and ensuring the space is clean and tidy at all times.

This is an hourly, non-exempt position. This position is at minimum part-time and requires a commitment of at least 20 hours per week. Some workdays may extend up to 10 hours as needed. Some overtime may be required with wages being commensurate.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Must wear proper work safe attire

  • Communicate with management and the coffee bar team throughout the day to complete daily objectives
  • Monitor efficiencies and inefficiencies and suggest/implement improvements
  • Assist with setup/teardown of coffee bar at designated times
  • Help ensure that equipment is functioning properly and that all drinks are acceptable to serve (correct temperatures, correct dispense pressures, optimal quality, no off-flavors); Report quality issues to Coffee Bar Manager
  • Prepare basic and advanced coffee drinks and light edible fare
  • Execute cash and credit transactions with patrons using a point-of-sale system
  • Restock inventories as needed via procedural transfer
  • Ensure the bar and immediate bar area is clean and properly stocked at all times.
  • Clear empty glassware from tables
  • Operate glass washer, dry and buff all service ware, and stock shelves to ensure sufficient quantities needed for service.
  • Reset tables by ensuring chairs are pushed in, tables and menus are clean and available
  • Empty all rubbish from garbage cans as needed
  • Remove any broken glass and mop as spills occurs
  • Ensure bathrooms are stocked with soap/paper goods, functioning properly and kept clean at all times
  • Pull merchandise from back stock areas as needed
  • Re-merchandise Shelves as needed
  • Help Curate and maintain a pleasant environment (temperature, music, cleanliness, conduct)
  • Ensure security of bar area; Does not allow any unauthorized individuals behind bar other than those authorized
  • Set up space as needed for special events
  • Maintain knowledge about coffee and beer offerings through sensory analysis and information provided
  • Understand and follow procedures to maintain compliance with all health and safety regulations and rules regarding beverage and food service sanitation as stated by the relevant jurisdictions.
